for the first time ever! ok, I know they’re not going to win any prizes and they still look swollen and scarred but this is what the last 2 and a half months have been all about 😀
(I don’t even like painted toe nails!)
I don’t know if they are looking much different really…I prefer the left one now and that was the one that was looking a bit ropey for a while 🙂
I’ve been massaging them and bending my big toes back as much as possible (when I remember to do it)
When I’d first had the operation done and saw some video clips of people massaging their scars and bending their toes about I couldn’t believe I’d soon be brave enough to do that! But trust me – if you’re reading this recently after surgery – they’ll soon start to feel like your own feet again 🙂
It’s been two months and two days since my operation and things are slowly getting back to normal.
The Darcos went in the bin a couple of weeks ago and the crutches are somewhere at the back of a cupboard.
Here’s what I can do… I can walk a mile or so without too much pain, I can walk so normally that, at a slow pace, no one would know I’ve had surgery. I can wear a pair of Uggs.
Here’s what I can’t do….I can’t run, I can’t stand on tiptoes unless I’m really careful, I can’t fit into any of my old shoes (shame)
My consultant wanted me to have physio, in addition to the exercises I’m supposed to do myself but I haven’t found anyone locally (well I did…but it didn’t work out – he had me standing on one leg like a demented flamingo and sent me on my way with only a vague idea of what he was trying to achieve)
However, as far as I’m concerned, the most pressing problem is the stiffness in my feet so I visited my osteomyologist…. doesn’t everyone have one? He has worked wonders with just a couple of sessions of seemingly doing very little, other than almost sending me to sleep. My kind of treatment! Basically I lie down on a comfy air bed and he very gently (almost imperceptibly) moves and stretches my feet. The way he explained it is that healthy tissue lies flat and scar tissue is like a bunch of cocktails sticks that have been dropped in a heap and what he’s doing is stretching it all out again. Very scientific 🙂
I was sceptical – it’s my default setting – but my feet feel better and who can argue with that?
